Headquartered in Hauppauge, NY, about 40 miles east of New York City, Hauppauge has been bringing TV to the PC since 1992. Hauppauge Computer Works is a division of Hauppauge Digital Inc. In December of 2008, Hauppauge Digital Inc. acquired the Pinnacle PCTV product line from Avid, and now runs PCTV tuner products as a separate division.
HD PVR high definition video recorder family
The HD PVR family of high definition video recorders includes the Colossus 2 (internal PCIe HD recorder), HD PVR 2 (USB HD recorder), the HD PVR Rocket (a portable HD video recorder) and the HD PVR Raw60 (a USB 3.0 raw capture device). All HD PVR recorders can record from unencrypted HDMI and most have high definition Component Video inputs.
WinTV Family
Our first WinTV receiver was developed during the Gulf war in 2002, when many of us were glued to CNN, watching events unfold. Our engineers developed a way where analog cable TV could be displayed in a window on a DOS screen, which over time warped into our Windows based WinTV application. In 2006 we developed our first TV recording product, which took analog TV, converted it to a digital format, compressed the video and recorded it to the disk drive inside a PC. This was the predecessor to the current DVR box.
The current WinTV family of analog and digital TV tuners is for both PC's and Linux computers. All WinTVs allow users to watch TV on their computer screen, in a window or full screen. The WinTV Extend application allows users to stream live TV via the Internet, both inside and outside of the home. Some WinTV models include features such as picture-in-picture, FM radio, IR remote control and high performance TV recording. Although each model has distinct features, this family of products shares the same basic functionality: they all allow a PC user to have TV in a resizable window on their screen.
The WinTV is used by home users and business professionals. Business users use the WinTV to keep track of breaking news by watching a TV news channel in a small window of their PC screen. Home users like to be able to watch their favorite TV shows while they answer e-mail or surf the net.
One of the biggest growth markets for USB and internal PCIe TV tuners is for use in home entertainment centers which are based on Plex. Plex brings TV recording to Android, Linux and Windows systems. Also, there is a worldwide shift from analog to digital TV. In a few years, analog TV broadcasts will be completely replaced by digital TV broadcasts, and PC based TV tuners such as the WinTV can take advantage of the benefits of digital TV broadcasts: better pictures and clearer sound.
It's simple to upgrade your PC for digital TV: just add in one of the many Hauppauge digital TV tuners. If you already have an analog WinTV tuner installed, just add a new WinTV digital TV tuner. Or use one of our 'hybrid' WinTV-HVR's which include both analog and digital TV tuners on one board!
